Q. I'm in a rut. How do I make a career change?

A. The best way to shake up a stagnant career and make a change is simply by starting. Realizing you need to make a change really is the first step. As soon as you begin, you’re already on your way!

So you know you need a change, great! Next up, ask yourself what kind of change you want. Change of scenery? Company? Job duties? Or maybe you want to work for a company that offers you an opportunity to grow. Once you know the type of change you’re after, you can look for jobs that fit the bill.

Take a look at job descriptions you want to pursue, then tailor your resume based on the job requirements. See if any of the responsibilities you’ve held at past jobs overlap with the responsibilities described in job descriptions you’re pursing, If so, tailor your resume to reflect that.

How do you break out of a career rut? You create a resume, apply to jobs on Monster, and start interviewing. It really is that simple.
